Mockup in the backyard

Assembling sculpture models in Smith’s South Orange backyard

Our Mission

The mission of the Tony Smith Sculpture Project (TSSP) is to make the life, work, and impact of artist Tony Smith easily accessible and beneficial to the public.

Through the support of public art projects, such as Smith’s sculpture TAU, the Lennie Pierro Memorial Arts Foundation (LPMAF), which sponsors the project, seeks to enrich the lives not only of residents of Smith’s hometown, South Orange, but of visitors from all communities.

The on-going work of the TSSP and LPMAF (named after the late artist and art educator, Lennie Pierro of South Orange), is supported chiefly by private donations.

Master Plan

The sculpture is installed, but our work is not done. Your help is still needed.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways to contribute your time, skills, and financial support to the Tony Smith Sculpture Project. You can make TAU a resource for your school, PTA, scout troop, town, family, or organization as a volunteer. Contact TSSP for ideas or consider one of the following:

Fundraising. Support our effort to raise monies to accomplish three major goals: to install lighting at the sculpture site; to provide a trust for the Village of South Orange to maintain TAU short term and long range; to continue to provide educational tools and resources for teachers as well as individuals.

Outreach and Education. Assist in developing programming, events, presentations, and other community outreach to allow TAU to come alive for everyone.

Ambassador. Work to bring awareness of TAU to arts and civic organizations to further engage communities to interact with this major public work of art.
