Seton Hall University, Beck Room of the Walsh Library, South Orange Avenue, South Orange, NJ 07079
This panel discussion will explore how Smith’s architectural work informed his sculpture, and vice versa, and consider his influence on contemporary artists through processes, inspirations or ideals. Moderated by artist, educator and curator Tom McGlynn, the panelists include Joan Pachner, an art historian and independent Tony Smith scholar, and David Rifkind, a designer and Associate Professor College of Architecture + the Arts, Florida International University. This is South Orange’s second annual art “happening” honoring South Orange and Essex County native and world-renowned sculptor Tony Smith. The event will include displays and projects by local artists, galleries and arts organizations, with activities for children and adults. Art Party in the Park will take place rain or shine at the TAU sculpture site in Meadowland Park.
